Jonny has been the choir’s affable and indispensable accompanist since the choir’s inception. He also occasionally conducts the choir.
Jonny first starting playing the piano at the age of six, and had achieved Grade 8 on the piano and oboe as well as an A Level in Music by the time he left school. He studied Maths at Bristol University and for a PGCE at Exeter University, whilst maintaining a keen interest in music, including performing with the Bristol University Sinfonia.
He is currently a performance analysis manager at Redland Green School and a chance encounter with the choir's founder Helen Bilkey rekindled Jonny’s enthusiasm for playing the piano and led to his introduction to Redland Green Community Chorus, as it was then. This was his first experience of accompanying a large ensemble and he made his debut with the choir at its first public appearance at the Redland Green School Christmas Concert in December 2008.
Jonny has remained the choir's accompanist ever since and when not playing swells the ranks of the tenors in the choir
Jonny is the musical director for productions at Redland Green. When he's practising, strains of his favourite Beethoven, Rachmaninov and Chopin can occasionally be heard in the corridors of the school!
